Which Tire Changer to Choose

Which Tire Changer to Choose

If you change your own motorcycle tires (we salute you!), you know exactly how much hassle the entire process can be when you don’t have the right tools. Enter Rabaconda: simple to use, versatile and well-made, Rabaconda tire changers make swapping tires a fast and easy job.

We currently offer three different tire changers. There’s our flagship product, the Dirt Bike Tire Changer, our iconic Rabaconda Street Bike Tire Changer and our newest creation, the Mini Tire Changer.

Which one should you choose and why?

While all of our tire changers can help you up your tire-swapping game, each tool is designed for a specific purpose. If you’re not sure which one would work best for you, read on – we’ll detail the differences and the advantages of each.

Rabaconda Street Bike Tire Changer

Whether you ride a touring, cruiser, sport or adventure bike, the Rabaconda Street Bike Tire Changer is engineered for fast, hassle-free tire swaps—right in your own garage.

Designed for cast, wire-spoked and forged wheels, and compatible with both single- and double-sided swingarms, this tool gives you pro-level performance without the shop visit.

  • Designed For: Changing street bike tires, supports wheels from 12-21" and tires up to 250mm wide

  • Hub Size Compatibility: 15-68mm with additional adapters available for 32-68mm hub sizes or specific wheel types like single sided swing arm applications

  • Best For: All street bike and adventure bike wheels, including cast, forged, carbon fiber, and wire-spoked wheels

  • Additional Features:

    • Ratcheting Duck Head for rim protection.

    • Can change dirt bike tires with air tubes and rim lock. Not compatible with tire inserts like Tire Balls or mousse bibs.

The Standard Duck Head included with the Street Bike Tire Changer is NOT compatible with cross spoked rims that lace all the way to the outer edge of the rim. For these wheel types, Rabaconda offers our Cross Spoked Duck Head.

A majority of street wheels have hub sizes between 15-32mm. Support for these hub sizes are included with the Street Bike Tire Changer. For hub sizes beyond 32mm, we offer our Universal Adapter. Additional adapters are required for wheels off single sided swing arm applications.

Note: If you're mostly changing dirt bike tires or would like to be able to change dirt tires with mousse bib inserts, the Rabaconda Dirt Bike Tire Changer would be a better option. Here is a video of changing a dirt bike tire with air tube and rim lock using the Street Bike Tire Changer.

Note: If you own multiple motorcycles, we recommend going for the Ultimate Street Bike Tire Changer Kit, which includes just about everything you might need to change tires on almost every motorcycle make and model, making it an ideal choice for owners of several bikes or riding buddies pooling together to buy a tire changer that caters to a wide variety of different wheel sizes and types.

What other riders say about the Rabaconda Street Bike Tire Changer:

“I changed the front tire on my 2022 Yamaha R1 this morning, and there was not even a scuff!! This tool is excellent: I use it at the track on my CBR600RR and on the other five of my street motorcycles. The Rabaconda Street Bike Tire Changer saves me time and money in the long run when compared to taking my wheels to get tires mounted. It is a necessity at the track for changing and flipping slicks. Thanks for this product!” – Todd Waggerman

Rabaconda Dirt Bike Tire Changer

Whether you ride motocross, enduro, trials or dual-sport, the Rabaconda Dirt Bike Tire Changer is built to make tire changes quick, efficient, and pain-free.

Trusted by the AMA for the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) and used by top riders like Taylor Robert and Zach Osborne, this tool isn’t just for pros—it’s for anyone who wants to spend less time in the garage and more time on the trail.

  • Designed For: Changing dirt bike and dual sport tires (spoked wheels only), 16-21" wheels

  • Hub Size Compatibility: 12-28mm with a 12-18mm spindle available for smaller hub sizes

  • Best For: Quick and easy changing of dirt tires with inserts like Tire Balls, mousse bibs and air tubes

  • Additional Features:

    • Uses traditional tire irons and a bead breaker to mount/dismount tires.

    • Includes a standard 20mm spindle with a 28mm sleeve for hub sizes between 15-28mm. A 12-18mm spindle is available for smaller hub sizes.

    • For an additional eight inches of working height, the Rabaconda Lift Kit is now available for the Dirt Bike Tire Changer.

Note: Some larger adventure models have cross spoked rims that lace all the way to the outer edge of the rim. For this style wheel, use the Street Bike Tire Changer. The Dirt Bike Tire Changer is not compatible with this cross spoked wheel type.

What other riders say about the Rabaconda Dirt Bike Tire Changer:

“I’m so happy I bought this for my husband and son. They race every weekend and changing bibs is a nightmare. The Rabaconda Dirt Bike Tire Changer makes the process so fast and effortless. It’s a great product - definitely recommend!” – Donna McDougal

Rabaconda Mini Tire Changer

If your kid is tearing up the track on a 50cc, 65cc or 85cc dirt bike, the Rabaconda Mini Tire Changer is the tool you need to keep them rolling.

Modeled after our pro-level Dirt Bike Tire Changer, this compact version is built for smaller wheels—perfect for parents, pit crews, and anyone working with youth bikes or small two-wheelers.

  • Designed For: Changing tires on smaller wheels, 10-17"

  • Hub Size Compatibility: 10-24mm

  • Best For: Changing tires on smaller wheels

  • Additional Features:

    • Compatible with both spoked and cast wheels

    • Uses traditional tire irons and a bead breaker to mount/dismount tires

    • Changes tires with tire inserts like Tire Balls, mousse bibs and air tubes.

Note: If you're only changing street tires on wheels 12-17" with hub sizes of at least 15mm, the Street Bike Tire Changer is a better option.

Which Rabaconda to Choose?

Choosing the right tire changer is simple—on the surface:

  • Dirt, motocross, enduro, or dual-sport bike? Go with the Dirt Bike Tire Changer.
  • Street, touring, cruiser, sport, or adventure bike? Choose the Street Bike Tire Changer.
  • Kids' dirt bikes, scooters, or mopeds? The Mini Tire Changer is the way to go.

But bike builds vary, and there’s some overlap. Here's how to make the best choice based on your specific setup:

  • Rim Locks:
If your wheels have rim locks (common on dirt bikes), use the Dirt Bike Tire Changer. It’s possible—but frustrating—to use the Street Changer in this case.
  • Tubeless Tires:
Use the Street Bike Tire Changer. It’s built to handle tubeless setups easily without tire irons.
  • Bib Mousses:
If you run mousse inserts, you need the Dirt Bike Tire Changer. The Street version’s duck head won’t work with mousses.
  • Rim Protection:
For cast or polished rims (common on street bikes), choose the Street Bike Tire Changer. It’s designed to minimize scratching with plastic contact points. The Dirt Changer uses tire irons, so rim protection is harder to guarantee.

Tool Compatibility FAQs

  • Can the Dirt Bike Tire Changer be used for street bikes?
Sometimes—but it's optimized for spoked wheels and tire iron use. For cast wheels and rim protection, the Street Bike Tire Changer is better.
  • Can the Street Bike Tire Changer be used for dirt bikes?
Occasionally, especially for adventure bikes with spoked wheels. But it won’t work well with mousse inserts or rim locks.
  • Is the Street Bike Tire Changer just for sport bikes?
Not at all. It works for cruisers (including Harley-Davidsons), scramblers, cafe racers, commuters, ADV bikes, touring bikes and vintage motorcycles—basically, anything not designed for off-road.
  • Is the Mini Tire Changer just for kids’ bikes?
It’s ideal for 50cc–85cc youth dirt bikes, but also works with pit bikes, scooters, mopeds and small motorcycles with 10–14” wheels (up to 17”) and axles between 10–24mm.
  • Do I need the Ultimate Street Bike Tire Changer Kit?
Only if you own multiple types of bikes or are sharing the tool among a group. For single-bike owners, the standard Street Bike Tire Changer is usually enough.
